| CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME |
|
Co-ordinators: Mr. Peter de Verteuil, Mr. Gordon Lewis
"Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seal or 'confirm' the baptized in unison with Christ and equip them for active participation in the worship and apostolic life of the Church" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285). Holy Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation, and Confirmation is the second. By Confirmation, the baptised are more perfectly bound to the Lord Jesus and His Church, and they are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit to be witnesses (or martyrs) of Christ and the truth of His Gospel. |
| R.C.I.A - RITE OF CHRISTIAN INSTITUTION OF ADULTS |
|
Co-ordinator: Lisa Araujo-Roberts Meets every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. R.C.I.A. is the process by which adults (18 years & over) become full-fledged Catholics, through the reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. Candidates observe a series of rites and ceremonies during the various stages of this “journey” in the presence of the parish community. At St Finbar’s, our R.C.I.A. program is known as the “Journey to Easter”. Each new “Journey” begins in late September or early October of each year and continues on to the following May/June. At the Easter Vigil, the catechumens (the unbaptized) are fully initiated into the church and non-Catholics are received into the church. The R.C.I.A. programs a wonderful opportunity to journey more deeply into the richness of our Catholic traditions and develop a deeper relationship with the Lord, through the Holy Scriptures. All are welcome, and the only requirement is a New Jerusalem Bible for classes. |
| PRIMARY SCHOOLS (RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN GOVERNMENT PRIMARY SCHOOLS) |
|
Co-ordinator: Mrs. Barbara London
The Religious Instruction (Outreach) Program in Government Primary Schools began under the tenure of Fr. Joseph Kavanagh, who was then the Parish Priest of St. Finbar’s and spearheaded by Fr. Lorcan Murray. The team consists of a few parishioners who are dedicated to instructing pupils in the faith at the La Puerta Government Primary School and the Four Roads Government Primary School. Classes are usually conducted every Tuesday for one (1) hour. During this time the instructors focus on the basics, such as prayers, hymns, bible stories and the Gospel. Pupils who are baptized Catholics attend. Volunteers from the Parish are always welcome to join the team and to give of their time to share their faith with the children. |
| CATECHETICAL COORDINATOR |
|
Co-ordinator: Elena Araujo The Catechetical Co-ordinator works under the direct instructions and guidance of the Parish Priest, and the Religious Education department of the Archdiocese, to ensure all catechetical programs are in harmony with the Catechesis of the Catholic Church. Subsequently, this job will entail coordinating Catechists Formation Courses, Seminars, Workshops, Retreats, with the Religious Education department and informing all Catechists of such events. The month of September is celebrated annually and universally as Catechetical Month. The word Catechesis comes from the Greek word KATECHEIN - when translated to English, means to Echo or Resound. As Catechists, the main objective is to Echo and Resound Jesus' teachings with the help of His Grace and to live what we teach in a gentle and merciful way. Just like Jesus did - and as we saw in our era, the way our late Holy Father did. |
