USHERS & WELCOMING COMMITTEE
Co-ordinator: Rose Slack

In addition to assisting individuals in finding seats, being available a few minutes before the commencement of Mass affords the Ushers the opportunity of welcoming parishioners as they arrive. Those encouraged and welcomed into this Ministry are adult ladies and gentlemen who are outgoing, vigilant, tactful and sincere enough about their commitment to offer their services when they are obviously required.

The Parish of St. Finbar’s would like to remember Mrs. Katie Pouchet who died in November 2006 and who gave unstinting service in this Ministry. We are eternally grateful for her contribution to this Parish.

FINBAR RYAN GERIATRIC HOME - SERVICES
Co-ordinator: Betty Fung

There are approximately fifty-five (55) blessed souls housed there. In the very cozy chapel the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the Tabernacle. Mass is celebrated on a regular basis at the following times:
Sunday mornings - 9:30 am
First Friday’s - 10:00 am

Mass is also celebrated on all the key feast days of the Catholic Calendar. Christmas, Lent, Easter at 9:00am.

On the Fridays in Lent it is customary to have the Way of The Cross.

Until his death, Father Eugene Delahunt was the Priest that officiated at Mass. Fr. Rudy Mohammed is now performing these services to the Home with the volunteers who assist at Mass with the singing and the distribution of Holy Communion.

We welcome volunteers who would like to visit with the old folks and just chat with them, or recite the Holy Rosary and read a Bible passage for them.

THE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE
Co-ordinator: The Parish Office

Tragically, my 41-year-old husband, Brian, was killed in an airplane crash in 1997. Five of his best friends were also killed in the accident.

Through the shock and whirl of funerals and grief, one thought kept recurring... I must help my three little daughters, 12, 11 and 8; remember him with love and laughter. I knew from my own experience, how much one misses a dad and, also how quiet prayer can help anyone through these dreadful times.

Brian had wanted to be cremated so after his funeral I looked around for somewhere beautiful and safe for my girls to visit and for them, in years to come, to bring their own kids...

But where? Few if any of our cemeteries can be called beautiful, and safe? I wonder!

My grandmother, Phyllis, had her ashes put in the church garden where she lived in England and a beautiful rose bush planted in her name. And so, the idea of a garden on the grounds of the Church came into being.

With the help of family members and friends of those killed in the plane crash, and with the kind consent and cooperation of Father Tom, the Archdiocese and the Dominican Fathers that the Garden of Remembrance was born!

Located directly behind St. Finbar's Church itself, it is a small peaceful area where one can distribute ashes and come to remember those who have passed before us. There is a memorial wall made of marble on which the names of those in the Garden are etched and lined with lead. Shaun Jodhan of Clark & Battoo Limited supplies artisans, for the etching of the names on the marble.

For further information, please contact the Parish Secretary, Mrs. Mary Joseph-Mohammed at 632-4126.
